Accelerating Denmarks net-zero ambitions through large-scale Carbon Capture at Vestforbrænding

Gaia is a Danish carbon capture project under development, utilizing industrial-scale amine technology to capture carbon dioxide, preventing it from entering and remaining in the atmosphere. This joint venture between Vestforbrænding and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions.

Gaia will capture and permanently store carbon dioxide, ensuring a clear and proven low-carbon value chain. Additionally, the project will generate excess heating for Vestforbrænding's district heating expansion, providing district heating to new communities.

The carbon capture facility is expected to capture up to 500,000 tons of CO₂ from the Waste To Energy Plant. You'd need about 8.3 million trees to absorb that amount of CO₂ in one year
The excess heat from the plant will provide district heating to approximately 10,000+ households in the Greater Copenhagen area.
Gaia is part of Vestforbrændings journey to become carbon neutral.
